Subject: Houston -- A few pics

TO: All

I stopped in Houston on my way back from a set of hearings in Nevada this week.  Great visit.  On Saturday, took a walk through the Brian Bend and Stony Brook neighborhoods, near where mom and dad live. Near the bayou in Brian Bend (which I’ve finally learned what a “Bayou” is -- [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayou] there were a number of kayakers “putting in” for a 5 to 6 hour paddle/float down the bayou to downtown Houston.  We sat and watched them a bit. Here’s a few pics.

Mom and Dad seem great.  Really proud of dad for his work at mastering the IPad, and sending/receiving email.  It’s really a feat that he has persisted through the challenge of making that work.  And mom is sticking her toe into “kindle” audio books.  And importantly, they mastered You Tube by themselves to listen to Sumner’s concert.  Amazing!

Finally, the line of the day – indeed the weekend – came from mom this weekend.  After church this morning, when discussing what time we should head downstairs for brunch, mom pronounced that “we need to get there by 11:30, before all the Presbyterians show up.” (meaning the church crowd arrived).

A good weekend.  Hope all is well.  Heading back to Chicago, where my wonderful spouse tells me we had another 6 inches of snow last night and this a.m.  The never ending winter.
